Local voices provide unique expertise and practical grounding that better ensures that public policies are crafted to address the priorities of everyday people.

Yet, community groups, initiatives and organizations face several barriers to participating in policymaking such as limited access to policy information, policy actors, and resources to develop policy positions.

Bridging POLICY AND RESEARCH

The work of public policy and research seem to go together seamlessly, however, these two worlds are often kept separate in practice.

Research is at times cast aside by policy actors as too academic or not based in reality - in other words, not relevant for policymaking.

At other times, there is the simple perception of not having enough time to consider research findings when developing, implementing, or evaluating policy.
